#825 - IJC V21N33-1984 ThePhantom Tryst With Destiny

This year is the 50th anniversary of the spacewalk. Commander Alexey Leonov spent 12 minutes and 9 seconds outside his space vehicle Voskhod 2 on March 18, 1965, connected by a 3.5 meter tether. This was soon followed on June 3, 1965 by the first American to do the spacewalk, when Ed White spent more than 23 minutes outside his vehicle the Gemini 4, connected by a 8 meter tether.

So what better story to present, than a Phantom comic, in which an astronaut circles around the moon  and returns only to be kidnapped by pirates in the middle of Africa. How the Phantom rescues the astronaut is a story told in inimitable Lee Falk style.

Unfortunately, this story came out in Indrajal Comics during a period when they had some of the worst cover pictures in their history. The story was also heavily edited.

This is an adaptation of S061 (The Astronaut and the Pirates) which ran for 28 Sundays between 11-04-1962 and 05-12-1963. The first panel looked like this:

Download the comic here and enjoy.

On a side-note, this was first printed as IJC 025 in 1966 and it seemed to have followed the original strip better.

I am sure that anyone that is a parent of a cat, will relate to this story  about the mysterious ways of cats.

The first panel in the Daily Strip looks like this.

You really have to hand it to TOI to hack and slash a comic strip to fit into a Comic Book format. This story has been grabbed from two Daily strips. The first part of the story (until page 16) ia hacked and slashed from the Daily strip D2-128 - EMP 5-28-84 to 9-29-84,

#326 - The first part of a two part Indrajal Comic having a Mandrake story and a Rip Kirby story

Well, here is IJC Vol 23 No 29 called "The Killer Breed". This contains the first part of a Mandrake story by that name, that was seemingly an adaptation of Daily strip no 188, as per Xanadu.

This also contains the first part of a Rip Kirby story called "Vigilant Sleuths" by TOI. Hopefully some of the readers will be able to give the relevant strip name.

Download the comic here.

Enjoy,

#325 - Flash Gordon and the Vindictive Deity

It has been more than a year since I posted an Indrajal Comic. Not that I felt that IJCs were any less important, but I was engrossed with unearthing Mandrake Sunday strips (we just have 6 more to complete the whole series) and Mandrake daily strips. But I had to make a choice about how to operate between the 3 blogs.

But here I am with a Flash Gordon story. This story is actually a small part of the the daily story -D2-130 - The Mystic Isles of Mongo which ran from 01-28-1985 to 08-17-1985. The IJC story starts in panel 50 of the daily strip.

Download the story over here.
